This beginner-level bookmark kit includes a design in fallahi cross-stitch, one of the main techniques used in Palestinian tatreez. Tatreez is a centuries-old embroidery tradition passed from mother to daughter. Historically, women stitched motifs drawn from flora, fauna, daily life and the landscape to reflect both regional and personal identities. Today, tatreez endures both in Palestine and the Palestinian diaspora as an embodied practice of joy, cultural memory, and resilience against erasure.
This motif, commonly called zanbaq (lilies), is taken from embroidered columns in a Palestinian ghudfa (veil).
Tatreez is an open practice, meaning we invite non-Palestinians to take part in these traditions respectfully!
