Kîciyimitowin neck tie features a print of original artwork of Metis artist Lisa Shepherd.
Kîciyimitowin is the Michif word for honour. When this tie is worn, it is to honour all our Veterans; the men and women of the past and today who have selflessly given of themselves. This smooth elegant tie shows a print of traditional beadwork of poppies, forget-me-nots and dragonflies gracefully wrapping around the Métis infinity symbol.
A note on Appreciation vs. Appropriation.
Is it appropriate to wear Métis artwork if you are not Métis? Yes! Provided the work has been created by a Métis person (rather than appropriated for the sake of consumerism), it is absolutely okay. It shows an appreciation for the work, as well as support for the Artist. Supporting Indigenous Artists is one of many ways to be a good ally.
